Getting started in music

So alot of ppl ask me how do I get started in music?

Well it's more complicated process than people understand. So many questions need to be answered first.

What are my skills and talent level?

What instrument/s do I want to learn?

Do I want to focus on only 1 genre ro explore many?

Do I want to write or do I enjoy playing others song that I and my friends like?

Do I want to pursue a solo career or play in a group of other musicans?

I was fortunate to be raised in a home where one parent played music in a band. That influence was present. And music wad encouraging and nurtured. Not everyone has the benefit of that influence. So there are some questions to figure and the answers are really different for each artist.

Next step is decided your seriousness level. Alot of ppl play music as a hobby to bring in extra income and just have fun doing it. That's Aok.

One thing as a learning musician you can only learn so much by yourself at some point you will need to learn and share with like minded musician with similar talent and skills to expand your knowledge, experience and experimentation. Learning Music Theory is always beneficial to any musican.

When looking for gigs Social Media is an amazing tool but as a beginner I will always advocate visiting a venue on a night when and Open Mic (for a singer) or an Open Jam (for a non singing musican) you will meet lots of musicans with all different walks of their musical life.

Learning your instrument can be frustrating but it takes practice to make greatness. It takes practice to earn and learn technique. Don't be discouraged and be consistent.

Hopefully this was helpful.
